Indonesian coffee continues to strengthen its presence in the global market, especially in Egypt, by recording impressive export achievements. According to a report from the Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt, Lutfi Rauf, the value of Indonesian coffee exports to Egypt in 2023 will reach USD 92.96 million or the equivalent of IDR 1.46 trillion. This figure places Indonesia as the largest country in coffee exports to Egypt, controlling 42.69% of the coffee market share in that country. This was conveyed at the annual meeting with Egyptian coffee buyers in Damanhour, Beheira, Egypt on Saturday (6/4/24).
“Indonesian coffee has succeeded in dominating the Egyptian market. The total export value reached USD 92.96 million or IDR 1.46 trillion and made Indonesia the largest country exporting coffee to Egypt in 2023. This indicates that Indonesian coffee products are loved by consumers in Egypt. Its distinctive aroma and taste are the main factors in attracting Egyptian consumers. “We as representatives of the Indonesian government in Egypt always maintain and strengthen partnership relations between Indonesian coffee business actors and Egyptian coffee business actors,” said Ambassador Lutfi.
Ambassador Ltfi added that the increasing need for coffee in Egypt, especially robusta coffee beans, makes Egypt a very potential market for Indonesian exporters. He mentioned the contribution of Al Amal for Agricultural Crops which continues to increase imports of Indonesian robusta coffee beans to Egypt as an important factor in the dynamics of this market.
Ambassador Lutfi also appreciated Al Amal for Agricultural Crops for consistently importing Indonesian coffee beans, and emphasized the importance of sustainable trade cooperation for the interests of the two countries. According to Syahran Bhakti S, Trade Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, Egypt is the second largest market for Indonesian coffee exports after the United States, with a projected export value in 2024 reaching USD 95 million.
Data from the Central Statistics Agency shows that Indonesia’s coffee exports throughout the world reached USD 1.612 billion, with Egypt contributing 5.24 percent of the total exports.
Director of Al Amal for Agricultural Crops, Ragab Shehata, stated his commitment to continue importing Indonesian robusta coffee beans, with a target of reaching 5 thousand tons worth USD 21 million in 2024. The company also appreciated the role of the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, exporters and Indonesian coffee farmers in supplying coffee quality to Egypt, which he considers very valuable for the country’s coffee industry.
